BIO-SYSTEMS' Microbe Activated Barley Straw
Our new Microbe Activated Barley Straw is specially designed to help achieve the best water quality possible for lakes and ponds. The bacteria in the Barley Straw reduces sludge in the bottom of the lake or pond while the Barley Straw itself decomposes and creates a unique environment like no other.
Each tube is 6 foot long and contains 1 pound of bacterial powder in the center of the tube.
Since Microbe Activated Barley Straw contains no chemicals it is safe for fish, waterfowl and humans. In most cases there has been an increase in the invertebrate population providing a food source for the fish. Some studies have even shown not only improved gill function but overall improved fish health.

Application
Microbe Activated Barley Straw should be applied every 6 months. Once in the spring (April) and once in the fall (October) for best results. Make sure when you add Microbe Activated Barley Straw that the water temperature is low. It will take about 30 days to fully activate. If your pond has a high content of suspended mud it may be necessary to add more straw than in clear waters since the mud slowly deactivates the straw's byproducts.
Microbe Activated Barley Straw is most effective when it is partially submerged in the water. Do not completely immerse the product! This partial submersion increases the amount of oxygen it is exposed to, which helps decomposition and release of the natural & beneficial compounds.
| The amount required for treatment depends on the surface area, NOT the volume of the pond or lake. 10 sacks of Microbe Activated Barley Straw should be used per surface acre. If you are in an extremely hot climate where decomposition will accelerate then less should be used. |
